AS Level: The topics covered at AS include computer architecture, communication, data representation, data structures, programs, algorithms, logic, programming methodologies and the impact of computer science on society.
The A Level extends the topics learned in the first year and includes a programming project. The project allows the student to apply the skills they have learned in the first year to provide a computerised solution to a problem which must be solved using original code (programming).
Computer Science is an exciting subject that encourages students to think logically and to develop advanced problem solving skills in the context of developing algorithms that can be computed. Most students pick Computer Science because they want to learn to program computers, but you will also learn about computer architecture, hardware design, communications, data encoding, robotics, encryption and many other fascinating topics.

Students of Computer Science must really be up for the challenge of learning new skills. You must be good with time-management and happy to do coursework. Resourcefulness and the ability to work independently to solve problems and find solutions will be useful attributes.
